Pablo Neruda – “Don’t Go Far Off, Not Even For A Day”

“Don’t Go Far Off, Not Even For A Day”
by Pablo Neruda

Don’t go far off, not even for a day, because –
because — I don’t know how to say it: a day is long
and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station
when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.

Don’t leave me, even for an hour, because
then the little drops of anguish will all run together,
the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift
into me, choking my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;
may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.
Don’t leave me for a second, my dearest,

because in that moment you’ll have gone so far
I’ll wander mazily over all the earth, asking,
Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?

PIAS, Support an indie label in London

DepartArrival.com’s message:

An important note to those of you who are unfamiliar with PIAS Records, this is an independent label who has produced artists like Frank Turner (a favorite of mine).  It is also important to note that PIAS has also supported artists out of Ireland and throughout the UK. This isn’t someone’s garage stock – they have been an integral part of producing some beautiful music and invested interest in artists that many of us would not be able to enjoy if not for their faith. When I got the text of this news from overseas it was just heartbreaking.

The following article is from MusicRadar.com:

Amidst the horrific scenes of rioting, looting and lawlessness across the UK last night (8 August) came reports and footage of the Sony DADC distribution centre in Enfield, north London, engulfed in flames.

Luckily, nobody appears to have been killed as a result of the blaze, but the cost to the UK music industry could be severe. Alongside Sony products, the building was home to huge amounts of stock distributed by PIAS, including music from the catalogues of independent labels like Domino, Sub Pop, 4AD, Matador, Warp, Ninja Tune, XL and dozens more.

This morning, the implications for the independent music in the UK were beginning to hit home, with musician Chris T-T commenting on Twitter: “If PIAS damage bad as sounds, implication for UK independent music industry very severe indeed. Small dedicated businesses, NOT majors :(

Singer Frank Turner also commented: “Oh well, there goes independent labels. Fuck.”

The following was posted from the official PIAS Twitter account at about 9:50am this morning: “So many tweets. We can not make an official statement re the Sony warehouse fire and our stock until we have it. Also, glad no one got hurt.”

To find out about moves to organise benefit gigs to raise money for labels hit by the fire, follow the Twitter hashtag #piasfundraiser.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by last night’s shameful scenes and we can only hope for a more peaceful night tonight.

5 Common Scholarship Misconceptions.

Fastweb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges

Academic junkies…Err I mean scholars…I mean friends who will compare salaries with me one day and realize we should been surgeons:

Take a little time before Fall semester and match with new scholarships. There’s money to be had out there, sometimes it only takes a 700 word essay response to apply. I know how brilliant you are. Some idiot is out there applying so your chances are better. Do it ♥ You’re capable.

Scholarship misconception #1:

“I must have have a 3.0 to be eligible for scholarships.”

FALSE. For those of you who are in even a 2.0 – 2.80 range, you definitely have opportunities available.

Scholarship misconception #2:

“Everyone who applies for them must indicate a financial ‘need’”

FALSE. There are plenty of opportunities that are not need-based on income or background.

Scholarship misconception #3:

“If I’m not awarded, I wasted my time.”

FALSE. Start yourself an applicant folder and save all your mini-essays or writing prompt responses. You may be given a similar question some day or you may be able to use your response for another scholarship opportunity (with minor revisions) later.

Scholarship misconception #4:

“It takes too long to register/I’ll get spammed.”

FALSE. It takes about 10 minutes to check some boxes and indicate your minor/major/gpa/areas of interest/a few background questions to match you with scholarships. Fast Web doesn’t spam, you only receive notifications of new scholarships that match up with you, and you can click to unsubscribe at any time.

 Scholarship misconception #5:

“I don’t need the money because I have student loans.”

FALSE. Fine, whatever, yes you have student loans but this is money that is awarded to you for your work/response/time spent. When was the last time you actually -saved- student loan money? Besides that, you’re being given awards for study. Who the heck wants to say no thanks?

So, who has excuses now?
